Section 2.30 CITY SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
Chapter 2.30.040 Skills, knowledge and abilities required.
Thorough knowledge of tools, materials, methods and procedures
used in public works
construction and maintenance;
Good knowledge of proper operation of sewer and water systems
and sewage treatment
facilities;
Good knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used
in the construction and
automotive trades. Good knowledge of safety principles and practices;
Some knowledge of modern supervisory methods and techniques;
Ability to plan, organize and effectively supervise the work
of others and to participate in a
variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair activities;
Ability to secure instruction for or actually instruct employees
in the proper use of heavy
machinery, tools, materials and equipment;
Ability to perform manual labor under adverse environmental
conditions;
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate
effectively in oral and
written form;
Ability to maintain records and prepare basic reports;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with department heads and
fellow employees;
Skill in the operation of hand and power tools;
Skill in safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment
