Section 2.30 CITY SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
Chapter 2.30.030 Powers and duties.
The superintendent of public works shall work with the director
of public works to develop
work assignments for the maintenance employees; review work assignments and plans; organize
and prioritize city maintenance work; provide the director of public works and/or the director of
community development and administration with layouts, job site descriptions, material needs,
equipment and manpower requirements and cost estimates for maintenance projects as they shall
require; and shall secure necessary supplies, tools and materials required to perform public works
projects.
The superintendent of public works shall supervise the work
of maintenance employees and
crews and shall directly participate in the construction and maintenance of public buildings,
rights-of-way, utilities, traffic control signs and devises and park facilities and grounds and other
property of the city.
The superintendent of public works shall regularly inspect
the city vehicles and equipment;
supervise and directly participate in the maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment;
develop maintenance schedules and keep records of repairs; maintain equipment inventory and
warranty records; prepare bid specifications for purchasing maintenance equipment, prepare
written justifications for maintenance equipment and material purchases and purchase orders.
The superintendent of public works shall supervise the park
maintenance program; the
maintenance and repair of city buildings, structures and facilities; grass mowing; maintenance of
public grounds (including public parks, picnic grounds, and athletic fields). Maintenance work
may include carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing and other similar types of work.
The superintendent of public works shall insure that completed
maintenance and repair work
meets acceptable city standards; he or she shall observe and enforce work safety rules and give
on-the-job training to the maintenance employees in accordance with standard practices and
procedures of the city.
The superintendent of public works shall operate a wide variety
of automotive and other
motorized equipment.
The superintendent of public works shall prepare written
reports for the director of public
works and/or the city director of community development and administration as required; and
shall assume the responsibilities of the director of public works in his or her absence.
The superintendent of public works shall perform related
work as assigned by the director of
public works, the city director of community development and administration the mayor and/or
