The city superintendent of public works shall be responsible for planning and supervisory work in the department of public works and shall directly participate in semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of public works, vehicle and equipment maintenance activities.

    The superintendent of public works shall be responsible for directing and participating in the performance of semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction and maintenance of city property and the maintenance of city vehicles and equipment. He or she will be responsible for planning, assigning and supervising work of assigned city maintenance employees engaged in a variety of maintenance, repair and construction work. The city superintendent of public works shall be responsible for insuring that proper materials, tools and equipment are located at required work sites and shall be responsible for insuring that maintenance work is performed in accordance with safety regulations. The work of the city superintendent of public works shall be performed with considerable independence under the direct supervision of the director of public works.
